WaxedEach of our Rustic Hand Forged Period Ironmongery products, unless stated otherwise is sealed and finished in the traditional way by quenching the hot iron in pure Bee's Wax. This process gives a deep, lasting patina and allows the textures and colours of the forging process to show through.
This finish can be easily maintained with periodic dusting using a soft cloth or brush. If the finish does start to deteriorate, especially on heavily used peices, it can be brought back to life by applying a thin coat of melted bee's wax.
Whilst the Waxed finish is very traditional, it does not weather well and should not be used in exposed situations unless you require a truly authentic look. For external we would normally recommend the Battel Black or Patine Pewterfinishes which require less maintenance.
