Waxed

Each of our Rustic Hand Forged Period Ironmongery products, unless stated otherwise is sealed and finished in the traditional way by quenching the hot iron in pure Bee's Wax. This process gives a deep, lasting patina and allows the textures and colours of the forging process to show through.

This finish can be easily maintained with periodic dusting using a soft cloth or brush. If the finish does start to deteriorate, especially on heavily used peices, it can be brought back to life by applying a thin coat of melted bee's wax.

Whilst the Waxed finish is very traditional, it does not weather well and should not be used in exposed situations unless you require a truly authentic look. For external we would normally recommend the Battel Black or Patine Pewterfinishes which require less maintenance.

Patine Pewter

Our popular Patine Pewter finish is a hard wearing, anti-corrosive zinc based plating providing a very attractive Pewter colour.

This finish is suitable for both internal and external applications and is avalable on selected products only within the range.

Our Patine finish requires only a light dusting with a soft cloth or brush to keep it looking great. Products fitted in exposed areas will benefit from an occasional wipe with an oil impregnated cloth.

Note: This high quality, hard wearing finish should not be confused with other finishes with similar names from other suppliers.

Battel Black

Suitable for both internal and external applications this is a hard wearing paint finish providing a Dull Black Sheen. This finish is limited to few selected items within the Rustic Hand Forged range - for additional items please refer to the full Battel Black Period Ironmongery section.

This finish goes extremely well with items in the Waxed finish and items from our Black Antique Period Ironmongery range.

An occasional wipe with an oil impregnated cloth will keep this finish in tip top condition.

Note: "Battel" was the Norman spelling of Battle (where our showroom is situated) at the time of William's victory over King Harold in 1066.
