General Information

Our Black Antique Cast Malleable Iron Suffolk and Norfolk Thumb Latches are supplied with 4 component parts:
Latch Bar - this is fitted to the opening face of the door (the side you pull to open).
Latch Handle - this is fitted to the closing face of the door (the side you pull to close) and incorporates the thumb peice. The thumb peice passes through the door to allow operation of the Latch Bar on the opposite side.
Keep - fitted to the frame to hold the Latch Bar when the door is closed.
Staple - fitted over the Latch Bar to keep it close to the door.

Some of our Thumb Latches are supplied with a Privacy Pin. This allows the Latch Bar to be held down so that it cannot be operated via the Latch Handle. This is most commonly used on Bathroom and Bedroom doors where a degree of privacy is required. It is sometimes beneficial to drill right through the door where the Privacy Pin engages so that it can be pushed clear from the opposite side in the event of an emergency.

All of our Thumb Latches are supplied in Sets complete with suitable fixings.

Did you know..?
On a Suffolk Latch the thumb piece passes through the upper part of the handle. In the case of a Norfolk Latch the handle is fitted to a backplate independently of the thumb piece.
